Visiting Portland with your bicycle? You've picked a good place!
Portland, Oregon was rated the best
city for bicycling by Bicycling magazine again in 2001 after having
the designation for two years in a row: 1997 and 1998. One reason: Portland
has more than 140 miles of designated bike lanes and miles of forest,
lake and river trails. Conveniently located on the peninsula at the
Gateway to Nature, Weir's Cyclery is between both the Columbia and Willamette
rivers, not far from the beautiful, historic St. Johns Bridge and Forest
Park where there's great mountain biking! Stop in at Weir's Cyclery
to map out your tour of town and the surrounding area, email us for

The Peninsula
Crossing Trail
Located
on a publicly owned right of way, the trail crosses the North Portland
peninsula between the Willamette and Columbia rivers. The pedestrian
and bike path connect urban neighborhoods to workplaces, schools and
significant natural areas. Willamette Cove lies to the south of the
trail and Smith & Bybee Lakes Wildlife Area to the north. The trail
makes access to the Columbia river by bicycle straightforward.
Segment 1 and Segment 3 have been completed. Segment 2, being
constructed by Portland's Bureau of Environmental Services, is scheduled
for completion during 2002.
The Friends of Peninsula Crossing Trail is a group of citizens
dedicated to caring for the trail. They meet often for clean-up and
group activities. All residents of North Portland with an interest in
outdoor green spaces are encouraged to join. Find out more by sending
an email to Steve@WeirsCyclery.com
or Pam Arden at npdarden@teleport.com
The Peninsula Crossing
Trail is a collaborative effort between the residents of North Portland,
Metro, the 40-Mile Loop Land Trust, the city of Portland and the Oregon
Department of Transportation. Click here for more information.
